Junagadh Saurastra - 25th Veer Savarkar All India Sea swimming competition
Round about 27 swimmers, including ten women from Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, will take part in the 25th Veer Savarkar All India Sea swimming competition to be held tomorrow off the Chorwad coast in the Arabian Sea.
The competition jointly organized by Hari Om Ashram, Nadiad and Junagadh district administration, will begin at Chorwad and conclude at Veraval.
The men participant will have to cover a distance of 21 nautical miles, while women participants will have to cover a distance of 16 nautical miles.
The competition is organized every two years.
In 2006, Gujarat’s Anshul Kothari had set a new record by covering the distance of 21 nautical miles in 4:32:02.
In 2006, Urvashi Sarang took 4:40:29 in completing the distance of 16 nautical miles and set a new record.
Also Insurance cover of Rs 1.5 lakh has been provided to each participant.
Pilot boats, guard boats, medical boats and provision boats will also be pressed into service along with a small boat equipped with necessary instruments accompanied by a manager, a life saviour and gun man traveling along with each participant.
The completion will be flagged off at 0730 hrs.
